After a lot of thought, and discussion with many people, I believe I have found one of America’s main issues. It’s a sever lack of morality. It does exist in other parts of the world, but for right now I’m solely focusing on the United States of America.
Before I go into the immorality issue, I want you to think back to the 50′s and the 40′s. A time when people listened to singers like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, and the swing era was alive and well. The popular shows were Life Is Worth Living (Bishop Sheen’s show), I Love Lucy and the Ed Sullivan Show. Back then, people were more concerned about showing too much, not about what they could get away with.
In modern-day America things are extremely different. The popular artists are Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga, who both have offended the Catholic church in mocking church traditions and performing satanic acts…and it is excepted as entertainment. Another is Kesha and several others, all of whom openly sing about sex and drugs and very explicit things. On television we have the Jersey Shore, Modern Family, Two Broke Girls and others that promote gay marriage, sex outside of marriage and make jokes out of vulgar things. And the commercials are no better, with Victoria Secret and others pushing their ads when families are trying to enjoy a good night.
We are in an age when it is considered okay and a ‘act of free speech’ to call someone an explicit name or make sick jokes about them. Recently people have been making jokes involving abortion.
Now, I want to make the case to you that even though our country is failing economically, that is not the only issue and not the biggest one that is tearing our country apart.
Our issue is that we have a lack of morality. In our schools, in music and television, our kids and us as well are being told that it is okay and acceptable to act immoraly. That it is okay to openly mock someone for their faith and what they believe in. That it’s a just a natural thing to have sex outside of marriage and to get into a same-sex relationship.
Government and private entities are further pushing not just the Catholic church, but others as well, out of the picture. And when push out religion and you proclaim that vulgar acts are okay, you start to tear a part the moral fibers that built our nation. The moral fibers that our founding fathers knit into our founding from years of their own tradition. Without a moral compass, you lose the sense of what is right wrong and the lines become a shade of gray.
And we sit back and hope that it gets better, that something good will come along and push people in the right direction. But this is something that we can longer afford to do…sitting on the sidelines dictating to the people in the game will produce no results. We must get into the game, get into the fray and fight for our country.
We must get up and work. Yes Jesus Christ called us to pray and be people of faith, but that does mean that we’re just supposed to pray…being people faith means more than that! If you recall Jesus cast the merchants out of the temple, with a whip. Now I’m not saying we need to whip people, but we need to take strong actions against the dark forces that threaten our way of life.
I ask you to pray about this and consider what you could do. It could be as simple as praying in front of an abortion clinic, or if God is calling to do more than that is great. Do it not just for this generation, but for the generations that follow.
Remember, Ronald Reagan said himself that “freedom is only a generation away from extinction.” So let’s carry the flame of freedom and hand it to the next generation knowing that we did the best job that we could.
Please think about and remember this. May God be with you.
