Timothy Cardinal Dolan, the Archbishop of New York City, gave the closing benediction at the Democrat National Convention this week. Originally he had only been accepted to give the benediction at the Republican National Convention, saying that he had extended his services to the Democrats convention, but they had apparently blown him off. They soon smoothed things over and he was invited to give the benediction.
Liberals took to twitter to make their disgust known. They mainly cussed him out, the majority of the angry tweets included the F-bomb. Some called him a pedophile and a weasel. One person was disgusted that the DNC was ending in prayer in general, having Cardinal Dolan give closing prayer made the individual even angrier.
The best part of the evening when the news stations MSNBC, CNN, ABC, and even the DNC’s own live stream of the event, cut away from the event. CNN just made him the background for the talking heads, while MSNBC cut the audio and video completely. Interesting how they let him give the benediction after all of the fuss, and then shut him off. And to no surprise, the only stations that covered Dolan’s closing prayer/speech was FOX News and C-SPAN.
In Cardinal Dolan’s closing prayer he said that we pray for “those who are waiting to be born that they may be protected.” A clear pro-life statement made in front of the large crowd. He also said “renew in all are people a profound respect for religious liberty, the first most cherished freedom bequeathed upon us in our founding.” And in focusing on religious liberty he asked God and the people to pray for “those who are persecuted for their religious convictions.” Dolan mentioned faith and invoked God in nearly every statement he made. Another point in the prayer, “We praise and thank you (God) for the American genius of government, of the people, by the people and for the people.”
Dolan hit the crowd on two points that they have stood strongly against, in a big way. He did not make any subtle hints at what he meant, he came right out and said it.
The Right To Life group tweeted about their joy that there was at least one pro-life speaker at the ‘abortion convention’ they called it. Many were happy that pro-life Democrats (yes they exist), were represented at the event because of Dolan’s great speech/prayer.

That was a fantastic prayer. He prayed for the basic things that make a just society, religious liberty, care for the poor, care for the children – unborn, the family and traditional marriage. These elements are essential to achieving justice. The dems are their own problem, justice is not achieved through their policies.
