House Committee Votes In Favor Of Contempt Charge Against AG Holder – Congress Might Vote Next

In the past week the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, headed by California Rep. Darrell Issa, has voted in favor of a contempt charge against Attorney General Eric Holder.

This was not the first attempt by Congress to get documents from the DOJ (Department of Justice) that are in connection with operation ‘Fast and Furious’.  Rep. Issa and other Republican members of Congress attempted to talk to Holder and try the easy way to get the hundreds of documents.  But their hand was forced and they are taking drastic action.

Now that the committee has successfully passed the contempt charge, it will more than likely move into the Congress to be voted on.

Democrats and the White House have gone into a fit.  One claim that Democrats have stayed away from was made by the former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.  Rep. Pelosi made the outrageous claim that the reason behind the committees vote, was that the Republicans are getting payback for the DOJ’s voter ID crackdown.

Her claim is ridiculous, and has been dismissed as ‘hogwash’ by some GOP lawmakers.  Pelosi should have known better, since the battle with the DOJ’s documents has been going on for nearly a year, while the voter ID battle is a more recent occurence.

As mentioned above, it is very likely that the contempt charge against the attorney general will go through Congress.  So in the near future, if the charge passes, Congress will hopefully get all of the documents that they’ve been requesting.  And we will finally find out what the DOJ and the White House have been hiding from Congress and the American public.
