This past week the Romney campaign was able to release somewhat of a sigh of relief. Now that one of their main challengers,Rick Santorum, has left the race.
But their troubles are far from over.
After Santorum suspended his campaign, the Romney camp and the media expected Ricks supporters to flock over to him in droves. The problem, is that barely anyone has budged since late Tuesday.
This continues to add to Mitt Romney‘s central problem that not a lot of people are discussing. And that is Romney’s conservative problem. No matter how much Mitt goes out on the trail and on TV, and talks about his ‘conservative’ record. It does not seem to make the core group conservatives sway his way.
Even though Romney says other wise, his health care law that he gave to Massachusetts is the inspiration for Pres. Obama’s law. It also contains the same mandate that all conservatives stand against. This along with his continued flip-flops on abortion, bailouts and other key issues have left many in doubt.
Another problem that Mitt Romney has, with conservatives and other members in the Republican party. Is that he lacks the ability to make people become enthusiastic. The ability to inspire people into going out and helping him campaign and get others to vote.
The only thing that can bring more people, and make supporters excited, and make them go and help. Is if he chooses a strong conservative that many people have been looking to, like Allen West or even Rick Santorum. I strongly believe that is what Mitt Romney needs to defeat Obama.
NOTE- Please consider hitting the tip jar. I would greatly appreciate it.
I agree that a conservative choice for Vice President, would do a world of good for Mitt Romney. It would add some volunteer energy to his campaign, and go far in mending the relationship with the GOP base.
I have heard the name Allen West and Rick Santorum mentioned as well. Another suggestion was Ohio’s Senator Rob Portmann. Ohio is considered a very important state for the GOP. Many think he would be a safe choice.
Another suggestion – Senator Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire. If it is true that Romney is having trouble with the female vote (I don’t trust the polls this far out), Kelly Ayotte might be a big help.
Marco Rubio, and Chris Christie are two more names that have been suggested.
I haven’t been paying much attention to how conservative any one particular choice would be, but the time is right to start. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. It could be a critical decision!
