Paterno Talks To Media Outside of His Home About The Scandal
Something that has been troubling me lately, is that even though the truth has come out about the child abuse that Jerry Sandusky committed over a span of many years, totaling eight victims. That we have lost sight of who the bad person is in all 0f this.
The fact is that, now former head coach, Joe Paterno was told by the eye witness, a janitor, about what he had seen Sandusky doing with a young boy, without details or knowing the entire story. Paterno did what was lawfully right by going to the higher authorities in Penn State and letting them know about the incident.
But now, people seem to be more upset with Joe Paterno than with the man who actually committed these crimes. These people feel like Paterno should have done what was morally right by informing the police about the incident. Not that I disagree that he should have told the authorities after the people higher up do nothing about it.
I feel like Joe Paterno has been unjustly fired. He just said today that he would retire at the end of the season, but the board did not seem pleased with that. Instead they decided to abruptly fire him. They did not even tell him in person, instead they called him. A cowardly move on their part.
Now that they have done this, they may as well fire everyone who knew about the scandal that was most likely covered up by the people higher up in Penn State.
I think they should have let Paterno leave on his own terms rather than fire him. They could have at least given him the decency to finish the season that he started.
I hope now that we can focus on the actual story, and that is that Jerry Sandusky physically abused innocent boys. That is what people should be focusing on. The children that were marred because of this mans actions.
NOTE: I wont be surprised if a lot of the student body at Penn State will not attend this weekends game due to the actions taken by the board of trustees.
He made a bad choice for the boys. He is not the victim…those boys are. Everyone who knew about it and did nothing should be held responsible. He could have possibly have prevented some of the incidents. Can’t people learn from the mistakes made in the Catholic Church? You can’t just try to hide what happened.
